Sunday 15th July 2007

Awoke at 9am after having a good nights sleep in Francheville, apart from being awoken at 3am by Jeremie who had to get something from the cupboard in the guest room.

Opened the shutters to a glorious sunny day, although it was very blowy, which caused lots of small flower petals to be blown into the house during the day. Ambroise and his friend were not to surface until 2am so I had breakfast on my own.

Had a shower then decided to clear up the dirty glasses and dishes that were left from the previous day and loaded up the dishwasher.

Walked into the small town centre to find a stamp for the postcard to Charlotte, but had no luck. Everything was closed apart from one café and a boulangerie where I bought 2 chocolate brioche and a baguette.

Back at the house, started to read my book, but got the urge to pick plums from the plum tree before they all got blown down (it was very blowy and one could hear the plop of plums falling occasionally). Make a couli of plums and had it as a desert along with a goats cheese baguette.

Went for a siesta from 1-3pm by which time the boys were up. Asked for a stamp from Ambroise who kindly found one, then checked internet again for emails and train times.

Got bus to Lyon at 16:40 and tried to buy Munich-prague tickets but with no success. Checked in luggage and walked around aimlessly for half and hour before buying an all-day metro card and got the metro then tram to the waterside near the Rhône where the sun shone with some strength, surprisingly for this late hour. Sat and read book whilst, walkers, cyclists and joggers passed by.

Took the tram then metro back to Vieux Lyon and found "Café scandinave" to sit and have a pint at. Got talking to the irish barman, Brian, who was Irish, but had been living in Lyon for almost 10 years. He told me about how he got into the business (MBA with Guiness) and a few tricks of the trade. Very interesting indeed.

Bought another half-a-pint and was given one free by the owner, Brian, and got a lift to the station by another guy at the bar.
